Choosing Your Frames

FramesFor many people, the most important aspect of choosing eyeglass frames is how they look on our face. When you buy new glasses G Spiteri Debono will ensure the width of the frames, the length of the sides and the fit round the ears are right for you. Frames should enhance the shape and features of your face. Before trying on a frame, determine the overall shape of your face. The aesthetic appearance of the frame is just as important as its comfort and durability.

The first thing one has to do in order to find a great pair of eyeglasses or sunglasses is to determine what shape and colouring group works the best. This will reduce the search time and make it easier to achieve the look you want.

Picking the right Glasses for your face shape

Three points should be kept in mind when choosing the right frame, both for sunglasses or eyeglasses:

  • The size of the frame should be to scale with your face
  • The shape of the frame should contrast your face, for example if you have a round face try going with rectangular frame
  • Flaunt what you have, if you have beautiful green eyes try and pick a frame with colors that bring them out

There are seven main face shapes: round, oval, oblong, base-down triangle, base-up triangle, diamond and square. If you still need assistance in choosing your frame G Spiteri Debono will be glad to assist you.

Base Down Triangle Face

triangleThis face shape is similar to a triangle with a heavy jaw line and narrow forehead that widens at the chin. To make your face look more proportionate we suggest a frame that is heavily accented on the top region with colour and detailing on the top half or cat-eye shapes. An example would be semi-rimless frame, with heavy top, and no frame at the bottom.

Diamond Shape Face

diamondDiamond-shaped faces are narrow at the eye line and jawline, and cheekbones are often high. This is the rarest face shape. To highlight the eyes and bring out the cheekbones, we recommend frames that have detailing or distinctive brow lines, or rimless frames or oval and cat-eye shapes.

Heart Shape Face

heartWith this face shape we suggest frames that are very light-colored and wider at the bottom. Rimless frames go very well with this type of bone structure.

Oblong Face

oblongWith an oblong face the goal is to make your face look shorter than it is since the face is longer than it is wide and has a long straight cheek like. To achieve this we suggest frames that are longer from top to bottom, decorative or contrasting temples that add width to the fact or a low bridge to shorten the nose.

Oval Face

ovalOval face is considered by many to be the ideal shape due to the proportions being well balanced. When picking a frame for an oval shaped face, try to keep your proportions: go with the frame that is as wide or wider then your face or walnut-shaped frames that are not too deep or narrow. Shape-wise, pretty much anything will look great.

Round Face

roundRound face has almost the same length and width with no angles. With a round face, give the illusion of longer, slimmer face, by choosing a frame that is more rectangular in shape and has a clear or thin bridge.

Square Face

squareA square face has a strong jaw line and a broad forehead. A square face generally has the width and length in equivalent proportions. If you have a square shaped face, it is best to look for frames that are wider and shorter, this will make the illusion that your face is more elongated.

Colour

The main factors to determine the best colour palette is the colour of the skin:
Light: If you have a fair complexion then try and opt for lightweight styles in bronze and other warm coloured metals. However try to avoid dark, heavy styles.
Dark: If you have a dark skin, metallic frames will look great together with coloured plastic frames so long as they are not bright coloured.
